RACHEL

I should break away. This is wrong. I only brought Alex out here so we could clear the air. When he missed French class, I knew something was wrong, knew he felt awkward at walking in on us. I never expected for him to kiss me. His tongue is soft and knows exactly what to do to entice me for more. He kisses me gently. His hands stroking my face, my hair, as if I’m something precious. My hands have a mind of their own. They wrap around him, pulling him closer. Desire builds within me, shuddering down my spine and making me bolder.

My eyes snap open. I can’t do this.

I love Seth. Hunter. Lucas.

My brows pinch together, and I break away from the kiss, watching the door slamming against the wall as Seth stalks forward. Fire rages in his gaze, his fists clench at his sides.

“Seth,” I say. It comes out as nothing more as a squeak as I watch Seth grab Alex by the back of his shirt. Alex whirls around, his gaze widening.

“Seth!” I shout, flying out of my chair as Seth rams his fist into Alex’s face.

Alex groans. The chair tumbles backwards with him still inside. He clutches at his face while Lucas and Hunter burst out of the house towards us.

“You fucking stay away from her!” Seth shouts while towering over Alex.

Alex groans, rolling from side to side, still clutching at his face. I shove Seth away from him.

“Are you alright?” I ask Alex, reaching down to help him up. He leans into my body, his head lulling from side to side. I brush his hair away from his face, my gaze searching his face. There’s no blood, but his right eye is red and beginning to bruise. He’ll likely have a shiner by morning.

“Why did you do that?” I shout at Seth, stomping my foot for emphasis.

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me!” Seth shouts, stepping towards me. “He was fucking kissing you! What do you expect me to do? Just let him?”

My mouth opens, but I have nothing to say to Seth. He stares at me, expecting an answer, but nothing comes out. I push Alex’s arm away from me, stepping to the side to create some distance, but Seth has apparently had enough. He turns on his heel, nearly knocking into Hunter on his way towards the door.

“Wait, Seth!” I shout, reaching for him, but he’s too fast.

“What’s going on?” Lucas asks while taking my hand gently.

“Did this asshole force himself on you?” Hunter asks while punching his fist into his palm.

I look over my shoulder at Alex, feeling guilty for putting him in this situation. I should have pushed him away. I should have told him… told him what, exactly? He knows I’m in a relationship with the bros. So, what more could I have done?

Not kiss him back, a dark voice whispers in my ear.

I grimace.

Yeah, I could have done that.

Alex meets my gaze and my heart twinges with guilt, pain, and desire.
